Mike and Linda Buus – Reaching the Deaf Around the Globe Mike and Linda Buus direct a world-wide church planting and Sign Language Bible translation ministry with the Deaf. DOOR's mission statement is: "Bringing God's Word and reproducing Deaf Christian fellowship to the Deaf of the world". There are between 30 and 40 million unreached, and non-literate, Deaf worldwide. They will never listen to a sermon or TV evangelist, radio Bible study, DVD training, the Jesus film. The majority of them will be unable to read the Bible or a Christian tract. They must be reached through Sign Language in a culturally appropriate way. DOOR's primary strategy is assisting Deaf church planters to plant indigenous Deaf Believers' Fellowships within their own countries. Using a system called CBS (Chronological Bible Study), Deaf evangelists, teachers and leaders are taught 16 "ministry tools" developed by the Deaf for the Deaf. Moving from personal evangelism, all the way through leadership development, Deaf fellowships and associations of Deaf fellowship are formed. "Deaf Hand" translation teams assist the local fellowships by translating the Bible. Through a partnership with Wycliffe International, DOOR staff and "Deaf Hand" translation teams accurately translate the Bible into the local Sign Language. DOOR's Bible teaching resources, as well as training tools, are also translated to assist the local fellowships.
