If you are reading this, you probably know the great need for the gospel all over the world. There are still at least 6,881 people groups that have never heard the name of Jesus Christ and have no one to change that. This fact would certainly burn the heart of any Christian. However, that does not mean that every believer is supposed to go out and become a full-time overseas missionary. As a friend often says, the need is not the call, the call is the call! The need should cause you to seek out how the Lord wants you to become involved.
The call of missions is one that isn’t the same for every person. The Lord spoke to Elijah with a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19), but gave Isaiah a vision of Himself on His throne in Isaiah 6 and appeared to Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9). All three instances were used by God to send them out, and all three instances were very different. The only common factor is that the Lord was clearly directing each one of them to His will.
In the Old Testament, we see Amos as one of the prophets to Israel. He was just an ordinary farmer that God called and equipped for an enormous task. He had no special spiritual gifts, but he did have a willing and faithful heart. In the same way, the Lord can and will use anyone that has a heart dedicated to following Him.
